Q: How long have you been in business?

A: S. Digital Studios has been in business since 2001, Henry Bradford, however, has been active in the video production arena since 1999. Henry and his team work tirelessly to develop their skills, Henry himself, to the point he worked his way up to technical director; leading camera teams in producing productions to air on television. From there Henry has worked in various positions within countless productions in Houston and Dallas and has clocked hundreds of hours as a camera operator and video editor.

Q: Are you the one who will be videotaping my event?

A: Yes, unless we are double booked or if working on a larger scaled project. Where there is a need (and budget permits) we employ skilled freelancers to assist on projects.

Q: How many cameras do you use? Does that mean a second videographer?

A: For most projects we would prefer to use two cameras, while other situations may necessitate have additional camera operators; both are dependent on either the budget or package chosen. Where there is just one camera operator and a second camera unmanned, the unmanned camera is usually locked down on a tripod.

Having a second videographer is generally structured into the prices of our packages, so you will know what to expect up front. A second videographer can be well worth the extra cost due to the extra coverage you will get. Be sure to coordinate camera placement and discuss any videotaping restrictions ahead of time with us.

Q: What type of cameras do you use?

A: We utilize a wide variety of 3CCD DV and HDV video cameras; Sony, and Panasonic to name a few. The standard definition (4:3 ratio) cameras are "3-Chip Digital" the most recent and highest resolution camera for standard definition cameras. The 4:3 ratio (generally named as: "Four-Three", "Four-by-Three" or "Four-to-Three") for standard television has been in use since television's origins and many computer monitors use the same aspect ratio.

The HDV (High Definition Video) scales up to 1080i HD resolution, along with selectable frame rates of 60i, 30F and 24F. For high-speed subjects 30 Frame delivers spectacular clarity, 24 Frame gives the look and motion of film. The number 1080 stands for 1080 lines of vertical resolution, while the letter i stands for interlaced or non-progressive scan. 1080i is a high-definition television (HDTV) video mode. The term usually assumes a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9, implying a horizontal resolution of 1920 pixels and a frame resolution of 1920 × 1080 or about 2.07 million pixels.

In simpler terms, the higher the lines of resolution, the better quality picture you will get.

Q: What kind of lighting do you use?

A: Lighting is dependent on the event and situation. In some cases, we may utilize the camera mounted lights if the venue does not permit the setup of a light kit. In some cases, we will use a stand-alone soft-box light that gives off soft, even lighting. Ambient lighting at the reception hall will also help the photographer's pictures turn out better and the flash or video light won't seem quite so harsh.

Q: How many and what kind of microphones do you use?

A: Audio quality is just as important as video quality. At the ceremony, we will have the groom wear a wireless microphone and have another one on the podium for any readers or singers. At the reception, we will try to make sure everyone who is giving a toast or blessing is using a microphone, this includes the person who is introducing the bridal party; if we have access to tie directly into the venues audio system that would help. Be sure to discuss audio placement and/or sound system access ahead of time with us.

Q: How do you edit the video?

A: We have a total of five editing suites, four stationary and one mobile workstation. We utilize the latest and newest technology is non-linear editing (on a computer) using the Adobe CS5 master suite (Premier pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Etc) on PC and Final Cut pro on Apple Mac. Depending on the complexity and length of the video, on average editing usually takes between 30-40 plus hours on the computer editing a wedding or events.

Q: Can I have my finished product on DVD?

A: Unless we are told otherwise, we always deliver the finished products on DVD. DVD is a much better quality picture than VHS tape because there is no loss of quality when going from a digital master tape to DVD. Depending on the services you request from us, we can customize the DVDs with multiple chapter stops/scene selection and a customized case with a picture of your choice on it. We do graphic design so the photo can be something simple or elaborate; it all depends on what you require. houstonweddingvideographers google.com

When shooting HD footage we now can deliver the master copy and duplicates on Blu-Ray disk! Blu-Ray offers high-definition video and high-resolution audio, providing a superior viewing experience to DVD, although you need a modern home theater to take advantage of it.

Your video, whether it be wedding or event, can last for generations without any deterioration when archived to DVD. We believe providing the finished production on DVD is a must-have!

Q: How do you stay up-to-date in the video business?

A: Video technology is an ever-changing field (like the computer field) and professionals need to stay current. We attend local seminars and classes to stay abreast of the latest technology. As well, we subscribe to the latest video periodicals and magazines.

Q: How can I see samples of your work?

A: Of course, it makes sense to see the samples of the actual videographer who will be videotaping your event. Feel free to contact us to setup an appointment to visit our office or if you prefer, visit our website to links to view our past productions. We recommend, if possible, that we try to setup a meeting before you sign the contract.

Q: What other services or special effects do you offer?

A: Yes, and there are many options to choose from! Some examples are childhood/dating photo montage, wedding/honeymoon photo montage, bridal preparations, love story video (the two of you describing how you met, etc.), short-form video, highlight video, recap video, concept video, rehearsal coverage, big screen presentation, etc. We also use special effects such as black & white, sepia-toned, slow-motion, 2D and 3D animation, etc.

Q: What about the contract?

A: When you decide to hire the S. Digital Studios, we will review the contact with you and provide a copy of it. It outlines how much of a deposit is required and when the remaining balance is due. Make sure everything you want in your wedding video is spelled out. As it gets closer to your wedding day, we will request a "planning meeting" either over the phone or in person. It would be beneficial for us to attend your rehearsal or to see the venue to map out camera setups and additional needs. The contract will also state when you will get your finished video.

Q: What will you charge to "videotape" my event based on the coverage I am looking for?

A: Pricing is a delicate subject, but important as it determines the level of services we will provide. If you are on a budget, please let us know that upfront. If your budget is flexible, we ask that you please wait to ask about pricing until you have explained to us what you are looking for and after we have talked about skill, equipment and service. Rates for events can be pricey, but we may be able to negotiate service rates based on your budget versus what we’d be able to accomplish with it.
